Jacques' ongoing series 'Diversity in the Round' reflects the way he thinks: “There are threads that keep us connected to varied layers in life and I am linked to my work by them,” he says. Born under the sign of Aquarius, Jacques sees himself as continuously part of the water, sea and ocean. He has lived above and below the waves that couple him to the spirit in what he creates and there is a vertical line binding the sea and sky to his subconscious. “This is where I store things that are second nature: colour, balance, proportion, attention to detail and numbers… numbers that are the glue holding all this together,” he comments. According to Jacques, the threads are the nature of him; he sees threads everywhere with magnified detail.
'Diversity in the Round' is a new series of works inspired by the challenge presented during the 'Sphere' exhibit presented by the Professional Outreach Program which Jacques co-chaired with artist Mark Sfirri. “I had not thought much about using such a simple form before, so this became the driving force for a vast amount of new ideas.” In Jacques' view, everything is a circle, even the seasons form a great circle in their change. As the Black Elk- Oglala Sioux said, 'Life is a circle from childhood to childhood and so it is in everything where power moves'.
