Machine of the week: it"s got to be the bandsaw. Aren"t they great?
This week seems to have been bandsaw centric for me and it made me realise how much we take this staple workshop machinery for granted. I have one in my own workshop, a lovely tabletop version, and it is a godsend for removing waste once the templates have been drawn onto the timber. I could use a large chisel, but time is of the essence for me, and I get very little spare time to dedicate more than a few hours a week on my hobbies as it is. And I would rather spend valuable time using handtools on the actual carving process. But that"s just me. Or is it? It would be interesting to know how many of you use a bandsaw prior to your carving procees, so head over to the forums and take part in the poll in the Woodcarving section.
And they are useful for a multitude of jobs other than for carving. This humble machine is definitely worth its weight in gold.
So I hope you have all been busy carving lovespoons for the 14th of this month! If not, quick! There"s still time! Whatever you get up to this weekend, enjoy yourselves and see you next week.
